Default Need urgent help from an expert

Hi,
I am closing to buy a 2002 Stingray with a Mercrusier 6.2 Liters.
About 500 hours.
Do I have to be worry for anything with the engine?
Normal maintenance done regularly.

Thank for your kind, help
Andrea

At that amount of hours I would request a compression test be done on the engine, that will tell it's relative "health". It may cost a hundred dollars or so but could save thousands. Also all fluids including the drive should be checked by a qualified technician, that will show a lot.

I honestly don't know much about the ''stingray'' boats, but for some reason in my head Im thinking ''poor quality''. I could be totally wrong, maybe I misread something in the past, but might be worth asking or researching that brand.

I had a 230 sx, a lot of performance for the money, but the build quality was about as bad as my hawk. EVERYTHING fell apart when it was a little rough. Great inland lake or pond boat, not a bay or ocean boat by any means.

A compression test and drive check are certainly good advice.

If it were me, I would also ask the tech how much to scope the camshaft. It never lies.

Cheers

I know nothing about the boat but 500 hours on 6.2s is nothing.

Salt water? its due for manifolds risers and possibly heads. Fresh you are fine if it checks out.

Look for spider cracks on the bottom of the hull . Climb under and have a good close look .
