It basically means two things.
1) There is new paint on the engine
2) Factor in the cost of complete overhauls into your offer

Are you asking from the standpoint of a buyer and seeing adds saying just freshend or wondering about your engines and wondering what a shop is going to do when they freshen your bottom end, top end etc?\
here is a link that Ilmor has for thier engines http://www.ilmor.com/en/marine/perfo...-energize.aspx

Without a complete invoice with parts replaced or exactly what engine hrs were before refreshing. I also would want to speak to the builder that completed the work.
Lets start with Refreshing:
Piston to bore clearance? New pistons?
Crankshaft damage or wear, inspected for developing cracks.
If repaired: who did it and what they did.
Rod bolts, resizing and or new pin bushings?
Bearings of course, condition of old ones?
New oil pump.
Heads: Valve stem wear, type valves? New or recycled?
Valve guides; worn ? Type of guide installed and sized clearanced.
Cam: flat tappet, roller, what was the condition of lobes?
Valve springs NEW!!! What are they, by who?
Lifters NEW !!!! Same here.
Timing chain and gear NEW
Was the engine rebalanced or checked?
Condition of harmonic balancer?
Spec sheet on bearing clearances if supplied.
Was the engine tested on a dyno?
This is a simple question sheet, if these questions can not answered; better keep on looking or pay a professional to complete a survey on the boat. Hope this helps.

I speak from experience!!! LOL
I once acquired a set of engines that had 48 hours on them...and 0 hours on the upper end.
As it turned out, I do believe that a zero had been left off of the hour figure. Live and learn...and I'm gettin smarter every day!!!

I saw a different boat that had a freshened outdrive??
I wasn't sure if these were industry standard terms that I wasn't aware of or if it could mean just about anything. I've seen the terms thrown around quite a bit.
