Default Are my 5.7 l MerCruiser vortec or not?

Hi guys,

my engine has serial number K278718, and is supposed to be a 1997 260 HP 5.7 l V8. I can't figure out if it is a Vortec engine or not, even looking at Performance Products parts diagram. It says 5.7L 2BBL 5.7LX 4BBL 350 MAG ALPHA/BRAVO.

Can anyone help me out?

Regards,

Johan

Look at the number stamped on the head. I don't know it right off hand but the vortec heads will be identified by the number stamped on head

A vortec head will have 8 intake bolts (2 in each corner) while a pre vortec will have 12 (2 in each corner plus 2 center).

ok, then it is pre-vortec since the intake has 12 bolts. Pretty strange since the engine is in a 1997 Sea Ray, I thought they all were vortec from 1997 and up....

Thanks!

Johan

A few TBI's were Gen+ starting in 1996/7 then in 1998 most production models became Gen+ (vortec).

I thought vortecs had plastic timing covers.
