Default IAC Valve (4.3MPI)

Hello All.

New to Offhore Only. Little bit of experience at iBoats.

Just had the IAC die on my engine. Looks like all the Merc MPIs use the same one, -862998.... In USA Merc want about $140. Same part is from a Ford 3.8L V6 (go figure)... and I have found a few different part numbers...

SMP AC423
Hitachi AVB0006
BWD 50558
SMP TV278 (Heavy Duty unit)

There are a lot of shops selling them, Autozone, O'Reillys, Summit Racing. And they around $45-$55.

Now, here's the interesting(?) part... In Australia, Merc dealers are selling them for.... $225... And we don't have any road vehicles using them... All our Fords are locally built.

Chris............

Might be worth checking on the older Holden models for a AIC valve.
I know they used the Chevy 5,7 engine in some models, the Commodore I believe.

Hi Michael. That was my first thought, check the locally built Holdens.... Believe it or not, it's not a GM/Holden part... Of all things, it's a Ford part... Used on the 3.8L V6s, in things like Windstar (around the 2002 year), which we don't get in Australia... I suspect the reason is because most IACs take external air and pass it through to the intake manifold. The requirement in a marine engine is for flame-back arresting, and that can only be done if the IAC takes the air from the throttle body, which only the FORD IAC does....

Thanks for all the replies. I have a friend in California who has bought a couple for me and is USPS Expressing them... I should be back on the water again as soon as the pony learns to swim...

Cheers....
