So I bought this 1998 Baja Islander with what looks like more of a truck motor than a marine motor with a super lopey cam. My question is if this setup likely to cause me big troubles in the near future? I've done quite a bit of searching but the exhaust style seems to be more important than the actual cam specs.

The cam:
"THIS CAMSHAFT IS A HYDRAULIC LIFTER GRIND .576 LIFT 246 DURATION @.050 ON BOTH THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST AND IT IS GROUND ON 108 DEGREE LOBE SEPERATION. "

This is the motor as it came off of ebay. It seems to be a cheap hot rod build as I hear the Pro-Comp heads aren't that great.

that cam would suck a lake dry....108 lsa? Don't even start the motor.

What are my options here? If I switch out the cam I may as well just find another motor since I have to yank the whole thing out anyways.

Different exhaust? Move the water inlets downstream?

a cam with a 108 lsa will need a dry tailpipe or reversion will continue,sorry for the bad news.

Ground at 108 is not for a marine engine, need to be at 112 with wet exhaust. If you are 100% dry to the / out of the tail you can run that type automotive cam grind. Best to get yourself to a good marine engine guy for some solid advise.

Got it. Thanks for the input. This thing would make a pretty bad ass V-Drive motor though! I'll see if I can find a buyer and source out another engine for it.

Where's the best place to look for a used motor? I've looked in these classifieds but they seem to be mostly new super duper builds.

I found a good tuner here locally that could probably swap out the cam for about $1500 and he thought the rest of the motor should be good enough for use as a ski boat with no problems, so there it is. Thanks.

That would not help him. IMCO risers will not bolt to stock manifolds. Even if they did they are still wet pipes.
