Yam outboards: 115 Vs 150
Anybody have any experience with Yamaha fuel injected motors? I'm looking to verify some gallons-per-hour numbers a friend told me about his boat. He has a sort of sad tail to tell, 26 ft aluminum deep vee outfitted with 115 Yam's. He ran it for years and consistantly used 10 gallons an hour total with both motors at WOT 5500rpm. That's 10 gallons for BOTH motors, and ran 32 knots. His boat dealer convinced him that for that boat to really perform, he needed to upgrade to 150's. He did, now he can run 43 knots while burning a mear 33 GALLONS PER HOUR! He's now had these motors for a few years and he wishes he could go back to the 115's. Does anyone have a yam 115? does it really use only 5 gals an hour? How about a 150? does it really burn 16 gallons an hour?

5 gallons per hour at WOT seems a little light. 7.45 GPH according to sources on the web. (You can pick the size of engine and then the RPM.) 13.2 GPH at 5500 for the 150 HP. Obviously there are factors that could change the figures mentioned.
