Default Comp cams 212 Timing cover

Has anyone used one of these with their standard water pump on a Mark4 454? Mine is fighting every step of the way. I have a short style pump I think..?? I know small blocks have a short and long style.

Problem is, its hitting the cover, the legs that go to the block. It says in the destructions to grind the pump to make room. Has anyone else had this problem? I installed the supplied allen bolts that make room for the bolt clearance problem, but the outlets dont mate up to the block anyways.

It was out maybe .030". I took care of it with my angle grinder and a tiger paw. 2 or 3 test fits and it was good. I had a problem with the cam button retainer also. Took care of that with a 1/4" drill and file.
