Cool Looking for an engine builder in South Florida...Who do you know?

Hi Guys,

Great board, lots of info here. I haven't been on in a while but I need some help from the guru's.

I blew my motor Sat night. It was nothing fancy, 400 HP Mark IV BBC in a fishing boat.

I picked up a low hour (250) Gen 5 short block today. Short block looks good but will need a cleaning and checkout. I'm looking for a builder to assemble with my old Vortec heads (Bought on this board in 2004!! Thanks David R)

Laz Mesa built my last motor and did great work but I don't want to wait 3 months for this one.

So block checked out and cleaned. Bored if needed. Recon Rods, install new pistons, bearings ect. Assemble shortblock.
Heads checked out and valve job. Top end all roller. Assemble long block. Paint it to look pretty :-)

Who have you used and would recommend. I'm in Pompano Beach.

Chief is in Fort Lauderdale. They do great work but are pricey. $3500 for assembly and dyno testing. For this motor I don't need all that.

I'll get in touch with Tony at Native for you (IMO the best h/p eng builder in the business). Figured Bills Marine was closer to a fishing boat budget.

Bill put me in touch with Tony at Accurate Machine, i guess they work together. Tony said 2k for machining and long block assembly. That's a fair price but I always like to check a couple of shops before I pull the trigger.

Native sounds like a Chief engines. Great work but pricey. If I was building a 1500 horse blower motor I would go that route but as Para said i'm on a fishing boat budget :-)

I'm gonna pull the pan on the new short block tonight and check the rods and mains. I'm confident they are good but I just wanna put my eyes on them.

Thanks for the referrals, Keep them coming!!!
