It looks like he switched the fuel line to the other side from where I am sitting. I could be wrong though

Looks like bowls and fuel line are on opposite of normal position. Probably had to do with placement of the old electric fuel pump. That would be my guess.

The whole carburetor is backwards, at least I hope it is. Otherwise, he is opening the secondaries first with the throttle cable from what I can see from the picture.

Nah it's just on backwards. That's a definite.

I wasn't really asking, but I did make a statement with a question mark. I'm good like that.

Okay, back to some million mile rustbuckets.

Looks like he is pushing the carbs open via the cable, rather than pull them open. I guess that works.

as far as that exhaust goes, umm yea, that needs to go bye bye

Especially with all that rust running down between the riser/manifold joint. Looks like a disaster looking for a place to happen!

I am wondering if he is going to have problems with the O2 sensors getting wet with the tight LSA of the ZZ502 cam. Best bet for this setup would be to find a set of performance manifolds with extended risers, and then install the O2 bungs in these as far from the tips as possible. Plenty of Gils showing up in Swap Shop that would probably work if he goes with the longer risers that rise up higher - like the second design HP500 pipes.

BajaRooster, have you addressed the oil bypass valve in the filter pad? If this motor is a Gen V/VI block (almost certain if it is a ZZ502), it was probably built with the 11 lb bypass spring. If you leave that in place with a marine application, you are in for a nasty surprise a few months down the road when your bearings all wipe out because the oil is pushing by the bypass valve and not going through the cooler or remote oil filter. Do you have an oil temp gauge on this boat?

Lol.

It does have the correct bypass valve in it. Something like 55lbs or so. I found the part # here on OSO after reading a few threads. The motor I pulled out had the 11lbs valve in it, and as you can see I'm redoing pretty much everything the previous owner touched.

The carb is on backwards with the primaries in the rear. The QFT carbs are built a little different and I didn't feel like re-rigging the whole boat yet. There's still a lot of funky loose ends going on in that engine bay, lol.

Will Gil or Imco manifolds with 4" risers do the trick? The full headers seem expensive and unreliable.
