Default HP 500 valve covers....

Are gen 6 HP500 covers taller than the stock 502mpi covers???

Nope, I believe they're the same cover as the 502mpi except the 500s have expensive blue paint and a really expensive shiny stainless piece with a sticker on it lol.

some of them had some grinding done on the underside to clear the crane rockers...

I've never seen any valve cover's that have been ground on, but two of the rockers have the corners radiused to clear the hold down boss

The early blue covers are the silly money , went where mainly stamped covers had dare to go before ,and had to clear those glorious gold rockers lol .then add the stainless sticker on top and you know you have spent some bucks

They are the same valve covers. The black engines have oil drip tabs on the underside. The tabs are ground off on blue engines to clear the roller rocker arms.

That's what I thought.... I have a set that won't clear roller rockers with the long studs....Must be different studs from factory.

Agreed! As a matter of fact I installed a set 3 summers ago not thinking of the oil drippers. First rotation the rockers hit them and broke them off. I had to open up the new engine and clean the metal out.

Damn I forgot about the ribs under the covers on the gen 5&6 too .
