Default Broken xr case repair?

I have quite a collection of broken xr cases. The gear usually jams up when it lets go so it breaks the case around the input shaft nut. Years ago I knew a shop in Fla that would cut out and replace the thread end of the lower where the carrier nut went in a trs. This seems to be a similar operation. Anyone ever heard of someone doing this to a x case? Just curious. I can't bear to throw out these cases and then discover they can be fixed.

I'd love to try something like that on my lathe.

Never confirmed but I've heard that once the case is tweaked that's it. Throw it away. Pretty sure bravo shop won't rebuild one that blew up.

That would not surprise me. I've always been told not to use a case that has had a blow up. The ones that I have used, don't last as long as the good ones. I have a buddy who owns a prop and shaft machine shop and he is interested in coming up with a system to fix as a side gig but when he is busy he is a ghost. Just a thought maybe someone was already set up.

Talk with George at All American. Welded, machjined, and installed steel tower in my B1. Running smooth. Just be sure you have some time. He loves to talk about drives. Its a small shop so sometimes they're a little slow calling back.517-270-3203

Most of the guys telling you it can't be done are also selling new drives. Worth a shot.
