Good thread. I cringe when I see someone cruising like 2500. I never run less than 3500 but like to be closer to 4k. I don't think twice about running upper 4s for an hour or more. Just home brew blower motors.

Interested in how you made your piston oilers

you can drill the big end of the connecting rod to shoot at the bottom of the piston.you could also w/ some work cut in diesel squirters or maybe some one makes them for the bbc.w/ enough time and money,,anything can be done.

Better than most I have seen in a big block. Never looses oil to the piston. First time I posted a picture of this. And they shut off under 50lbs of oil pressure and don't restrict once they are open.

Dart offers a piston oiler option in their blocks, they drill thru the main saddle up thru the upper webbing. There they drill and tap and screw in a squirter.

Think the problem with them is they don't shut off. You need dry sump and spin the pump faster to make up for the extra leakage. 1075 mercury has check ball in it so it limits oil loss at idle.

I run them and also spring oilers on my wet sumps, but I do use a titan pump. No oil pressure problems.

Thanks for the picture and information. I build larger CAT motors, and Im very familiar with the way it works on them. I've always thought it would be a good thing to have on a bbc. On cats they don't have any type of restriction or shut off but the oil pumps on these motors are massive, I guess they can easily overcome the oil loss. If you don't mind me asking how did you control them to shut off below 50 psi?

We use metal wire to Dial them in on CATs to aim the oiler to the proper position

It has a piston inside that uncovers the side ports. I do some diesel work too the pumps are huge and the piston oilers are almost .125. Think the oil pump is almost 1:1
