07 38 Top Gun new power, need props?
I am posting this for my friend so I may not be able to post all of the details, but here is what I know. The boat had 525's running lab 30p Bravo1's. It ran great but the motors had a lot of hours, so he sold the motors and bought new 600sci from merc. It has the XR drive, ITS with stand off boxes. It runs awesome and come out of the hole good, but needs reproped because it hits the rev limiter pretty easy. He has 32p Bravo 1 props but it just blows out when trying to get on plane. He is trying to get a hold of cigarette to get an idea, but thought we would post here to see if anyone has any input on this setup. Maybe some 5 blades? but which ones to try? Speed is about where it was with the 525.
Thanks for any help or advise! Rockie

The xr's are going to be very stressed with the 600's. 5 blades will stress them even more but they do hook up great. I have 525's with xr's and ITS. I've tried 4 blade 30's, 5 blade 30's, 4 blade 31's ,4 blade 32's and labbed 32's. These boats with 525's seem to be kind of stuck between props. On my boat the 4 blade 30's were on the rev limiter at 82 mph. The 32's run 85 at 5100 but are very hard to plane in rough water and are very sluggish all around. Labbed 32's were even worse and just felt like I was spinning my tires. The best prop I've tried so far was a custom set of 4 blade 31's. They got up on plane easily and had good acceleration but I couldn't check top end due to water conditions. I'm currently trying to get Mercury to make me a set of them as I think they will be the best prop for me. I feel your buddy's pain and I'm getting real tired of changing props all the time. Good luck

I pretty much agree with you, especially with their prop trial program. Input like this is what he needs to see, so he can get an idea of what to do. I would guess there are other Top Gun running around with the same power and it would be nice to get input from others that have went through it already.
