Twin aluminum Small Blocks good idea, or a bad idea?
Guys, look for some feed back..
Was thinking about building a pair of small blocks for a 2004 32ft fountain . It currently has 300 hp mpi small block set up. Was thinking to start with a Dart Aluminum block and Pro1 aluminum heads to chop some weight It would be 400 CID.. full roller motor with forged bottom end. looking for 450 - 470 hp Any one have any comments on Aluminum small blocks for Marine applications? Was thinking to go closed cooling? is this a must for an aluminum block? Boating in freshwater only for this boat. Regards, Unreal Offshore. |
I think you are in uncharted territory!

I have always thought the new AL LS motors would be killer in a 32.
Get weight off the back. |
Aluminum SBC blocks are not cheap. Would probably be same money to use current LS architecture with a bunch more power.
|
Yep, I'd do with LSX power.
|
The reason why i am trying to keep the weight off. is 1) yes speed !!!!!! but my other consideration is towing it when on the trailer.
|
How much power can you put into a small block and keep it reliable?
|
My buddy put two LS3's in a 30' Profile V bottom. They are all aluminum. Boat runs 95mph all day every day. Pump gas re-jetted hp 500 carbs. He used closed cooling systems off 454's.

Nice.. That LS3 is an amazing engine..
