I don't see why it wouldn't work. Pontoons seem to have a lot of "dirty" water that can cause cavitation but that wouldn't affect surface drives as much.
Mines get twin turbos over the winter.

My daughter and son-in-law are looking for a toon. It was at an on the water boat show, they ended up going to the dealer to get their show price, it was something like $80k. It was the nicest I've ever seen but I'll stick to my offshore.
