93 scarab sprint 18 with a 3.0 lx and alpha1 gen 2
Will that outdrive work with a 5.7 v8? I really don't want to buy a different one and don't want to remove it if i don't have to.

Yes the ratio is different, but you can make up for it by running a prop with 4 to 6 more inches of pitch than if you were running the 1.47:1 ratio that came behind the 350.
Standard prop pitches run from 15" to 23",....
Dependin' on the pitch used with the 3.0l, you'll never find a standard prop that'll run with a V8,....
and don't want to remove it if i don't have to.
Ya gotta pull the drive, Before the motor is pulled, or yer gonna bend the drive's input shaft,.....
If you think you can just pull the 3.0l, 'n drop in a 350, yer seriously mistaken,.....

Ayuh,.... Bull,....Not without some custom prop,....

Dependin' on the pitch used with the 3.0l, you'll never find a standard prop that'll run with a V8,....
Anytime the motor is disturbed from it's mounts, the drive Has to be pulled to align the motor again,....

Ayuh,.... You'd need to be into the 30"s,...
If ya want the motor to Scream, 'n the boat go slowly, Go for it,....
My ole tin barge runs a 4.3l/ Alpha, 1.65:1, a Torque shift prop set to 20", at 4800 rpms Wot, 'bout 43 mph,....
For S, 'n giggles, I slapped a 1.98:1 ratio on, thinkin' I could run the Torque shift opened up to the max, 26", insteada tightened down to 20",...
It ran well over 5500 rpms, at somewhere in the 30s for mph,... over-rev'ed at will,...

most 4 bangers use a 17 pitch prop in the range of a 1.98 gear ratio Alpha so using this same gear ratio matched to a 350 - V-8 you ran out of prop. Basically stock apps you need to match a V-8 - 5.0 with a 1.65 gear ratio or a 5.7 with 1.50 gear ratio and of course depending on how much hp & torque the engine put outs also plays a role on gear ratio for which outdrive to use..
Also the motor mounts that are used for a 4 banger are totally different than a V-6 and V-8 across the board for Mercruiser - Volvo and OMC sterndrives.
Most alpha GEN II apps like prop diameters of 14 to 15 inch depending on weight and set up of the boat. FYI.

The gear ratios are in the uppers on alphas. The waterpumps are run off the vertical shaft. I have been told that running the 4 cylinder alpha with a V8 engine will overheat due to the water pump spinning too slow to feed the bigger engine. I also think the inner transom plate is different from 4 cylinder to v8 also. Swap the upper.

Mercruiser Inner transom plate Alpha One Gen II part number is 44117A8 and this is for 4 -6 -8 cylinder Mercruiser engines.
The difference with the 4 banger is 9 out 10 do not have power steering as were V-6 and up engines all have power steering so the steering set up mounted to the inner transom plate is different - 4 bangers most of them have a steering tube and block mounted compared to V-6 - V-8 engines have a power steering actuator - steering tube assembly mounted to the inner transom plate plus pwr steering hoses routed to the actuator.
