^^^ You should use a 651 cam Mike , there`s 2 for sale not too far away, probably withing reach

the 651 is to much cam for this build.

I believe the 525efi cam , even though on a 114lsa, has more overlap than a HP500 cam. I dont have the info with me on that. But Im pretty sure it does.

We pulled a comp roller out of a friends 454 recently 226/234 duration at around .600 lift and there was signs of spalling on some of the lobes. Although the cam worked well, he is considering going to a crane 731.

I'd be willing to bet it was a 5150 core. Comp isn't really know for using the best materials available. The Crane Cams are the real deal.

I believe a good core material is one thing, but a good core material that has been ground past its hardness treatment, can be an issue. Kind of like crankshafts.

Something basic like a HP500 cam, 525efi cam, shouldnt need stupid spring pressures to keep the valvetrain stable. The crane stuff has very gentle lobes.

I dont know about that 525 cam, but yea, and thats the reason alot of comps basic hydraulic roller cams are quite a bit less money, like in the 300 dollar range. You arent gonna get a 8620 or 9310 cam for 300 dollars.

I personally would spend the couple extra bucks on a billet cam regardless of how radical the lobes are.
