In the summer I have it plugged in with the charger on all week and never had an issue. It's not the original. Not sure if they have different set ups

Leave mine on for longer periods a lot.

During the winter I usually plug it in a half a dozen times for a couple days each time

Mine stays plugged in all winter. Has a red light on when it's charging and a green light when it's maintaining

My 2007 uses a Factory installed Dual Pro. http://www.dualpro.com/project/professional-series/

You may want to look a what series or model charger you have to see it specs , most chargers over that last decade or so are designed to be left plugged in (so they say).

I checked it often the first day I left the boat plugged for the same fear of leaving charging batteries unattended.
As advertised to dropped to 3 millamps and voltage remained at 12.9 on my test meter with no battery temp at all.. Good to go.

Keep in mind that the health of the battery will determine if charging or just maintaining the battery is needed. A battery with issues can keep the maint free charger cycling and working continuously.

I still check them every few days or at least weekly . As Jbraun stated green lights are comforting!
