Question Bravo lower unit skeg repair?

After the OSO fun run Saturday, I noticed that the bottom of the skeg on my drive has a nice little chunk taken out of it. The piece missing isn't huge (approx. half the size of a dime). It would seem that you could weld it up and grind it flush. Is that a good assumption?

By the way, you can get the skeg from www.mercstuff.com over in Shelby township. It's less than $30 for a Bravo 1
