Yes, misstyped, thanks Hook'em. ICM not ECM. Any way to test ICM other than switching from one motor to the other?

after hearing about your drive lube tank I am betting on that.

I will update once I try some things this weekend so that maybe someone else can learn from this. I would think that if it was a drive lube reservoir though that the motors would not start at all and I would get an alarm.

I don't know any test procedures for it (ICM) but you'll be able to see if it's worn out. The contacts look burnt and cruddy.

Mine would crank and run then just die. Crank right back.....Old school tech told me what it was going to be and that "one of these times she won't crank again"....guess what happened.

Just following up. Turns out the issue was in the drive and not in the motor at all. Upper drive gears were completely bound up keeping motor from turning. Getting upper of drive rebuilt now. Thanks to all for your input.

Dang, that's a bit more expensive than a fuel filter. Thanks for the update.

yes, but cheaper than tearing down a motor. I was happy it was just the uppers in the drive.

Hi all, just wanted to fess up now that i know why my drive blew. It was only half full of gear oil!!!

Apparently if the transom fitting that goes to the reservoir bottle is broken, the drive will 'pump' your gear lube out of the drive and into the bilge.

Yes i noticed the gear oil in the bilge, but i happened to have a slight water leak after changing the impeller and made the assumption that it was a small amount of gear oil on top of water.

I really didn't think the drive would 'pump' that lube out that little broken fitting, but i was absolutely wrong. Hope someone else learns from my stupid mistake..
