what is your oil temperature? Sometimes way too big of oil coolers are used. Not good. Make sure you need one.
you want oil temps ideally around 220F to 230F.

A couple friends with 502's dont even run coolers and oil doesnt get above 240. Not sure why but i guess every motor is different. Mine ran 270 when running real hard so i needed a cooler but have a medium sized one, 10-12" long around 25-30 or so tubes - would have to go look. Sometimes i see huge coolers and the oil is way to cool. Cant get the moisture out that way. not good for motor.

thank you, 5200 is what the other member told me would be the better rpm @ wot

kap'm kurt, this cooler is for the drive.

once things start sorting out, i'll start an engine build thread what procedures to block, rotating assembly, which parts, and why
however valvetrain, heads and up thru carb will be on rm.

unless an engine that just needs a freshening up falls from the sky, it just depends on how soon the sorting out starts.
as in (other boats@broker)

any one see an issue w/ the mocal pump

thanks guys

That probably holds true to engines/drives however the only luck I've had with that rpm is with SC engines and or large cubic inch. I'm just sharing my experience however on most the BBC engines just seem to like that 5,500 - 5,600 min. All depends on style of boating etc and your own preference for sure. And yes depends on specific build as well. Same boat same day can feel like an entirely different boat with a difference of a few hundred rpm.
