If you have spark from the coil, you can rule out the ignition module, ignition pickup, and coil itself. You now have one of 3 items left. You could have a bad coil wire unless you have strong spark at the end of the wire that goes into the cap. You can have a bad cap, or you could have a bad rotor.

Cap and rotor should be the same as an 88-95 Chevy 1500 with a 5.7.

Default She's ALIVE!!!!!! Yee haw!!!!

Ok, so picked up a new Cap and rotor.

Thanks again SB, that link was very informative. It made it very clear on how the distributor works and all its parts. What does what!

Anyway... I was on my way to Oreilly this morning to buy a module and then saw SBs post and read the link as I drove into work.. Ok, I was in New Orleans traffic and has rained all morning, so it was mostly stop and go.

Anyway, it pointed me to the cap and/ or rotor, which I had changed this fall and ran several times since.

Picked up a new cap and rotor and put in on when I got home.

Looked at old cap and rotor and noticed a hairline crack that went around the lil notch in the rotor. Hmmm

So I put new set on and SHES ALIVE!!! For some reason, I can never swap wires from one cap to another without mixing at least 2 up. She sputtered a lil, so I figured as much! Pulled all the plugs wires off the cap and worked my way back around.

Then she coughed and grunted and wouldn't spin over... Ha! Well I started in the wrong position for where the dist. was set, so I moved them all around 1 pin and there she is!! Purrs like a kitten!

All I need to do is reset the timing and VOILA!!!! Still can't believe it was the rotor!

And please, if you need replacement parts, please do yourself a favor and get GM AcDelco parts. We can help you find those, when you figure out the issue.
Just wanted to say thanks again to SB.. I learned a lot about distributors after reading this link. I am not a mechanic, but like to troubleshoot and figure stuff out on my own and learn new chit.

Boat is running great! Though wife keeps telling me to slow down.... She is pulling hard above 4500, but I can't hold it there long till wife starts telling me to slow down. I think the biggest thing is since she normally sits in back with kids and how far back they are, the wind kicks up more than if we had a "normal size" lil itty bitty cockpit.

Go pro video is memory hog.. So clip got small quick!

This could lead to one of the few things that cost more than boating

Ha.. I hear ya! Was a little depressing, engines are running great since I adv timing a cpl degrees (10 BTDC) and pulls hard on top. Had 8pp (4 adults/4kids 100gal fuel) and she was at 60 pulling strong..

I guess I will have to take the boat out by myself!!
