Default Black Transom: How do you adjust a Q-jet?

I have a stock 330 with a Q-jet and this year after a day of running if I idle a lot I get a slight black coloring on the transom. I have never set the idle adjustment since I got them rebuilt, so I am assuming that is the problem as it only seems to happen when I am idling for a LONG time. What is the best way to do this?

Jon

most q-jets love to run properly at about 2 1/4 turns out, bottom front of carb,on the throttle plate there should be two either slotted,or 1/4 inch screw heads, turn them in till they bottom out, being careful not to cram them into the throttle plate, adj them out 2 1/4 turns, fire the motor up,adj them in about half turn, motor should start to idle lower or ruff, bring them out slowly till it gets the highest idle, give it an extra 1/8 to 1/4 turn and thet it run......they should level out at about 2 1/4

Do you move them at the same time or one side then the other?

Take it off the motor, place it carefully on the work bench and hit it right between the running lights with a 5 lb. hammer. Seriously, Dennis Moore's book really does a nice job with explaining q-jets and the part #'s of the compnents.

First adjust 1 side, then the other, then go back and do it over again . It's real easy, just listen as Offshore Addiction has said.

If you have a port for manifold vacume crank them in some black is to rich watch the tack back them out or take them in untill you get the highest rpm and vacume readings on a warm eng than give it abiut 1/8 turn out to help a little when it is cold the mearting well plugs are bad about leaking gas if you can turn the adj in a lot and it still idles or speeds up this is the first place to look
