Msd total timing procedure when locked out
I have just locked out the advance on my Msd distributor and have replaced it back in the engine. Is there a certain rpm to get the engine at to set the timing? I was thinking of setting it at 31* ? The engine is a custom 496 with 8:5 comp ratio, AFR aluminum heads, M1 procharger, and a R-tech intercooler. Engine makes 800+hp with 8.5lbs. of boost. The builder never locked it out and after speaking with Dean Nickerson it should have been done. Thanks!

I can't answer your question directly, but I'm not a big fan of locked out timing! just my personal opinion! get yourself a programmable ignition system and don't look back

LOcked timing will eat up starters sometimes, ask me how I know... so hard on starters, also witht hat blower you better monitor EGT and A/F that's pushing it with certain setups at 31, I would monitor, some engines will take more then that, some will take less... all depends.
