Prop Rotation w/ Kaamas (I know topic has been beat to Death)

I know this topic has been discussed numerus times, but I want to be a little more specific. My Formula has Kaamas on it spinning in. The boat seems to have a ton of stern lift with very little bow lift. The boat tends to run real flat and wet. Has anyone played with a V hull with Kaamas as far as prop directions goes.

If so, what characteristics did you see spinning them out before and after

Top Speed?
High Speed Handling?
Planning?
Low Speed Manuverability?

Any Input will Help.

Just curious before I fab some linkage for the transmissions to spin the backwards.

302sr1.......and mine go inwards, but its a cat which I guess they are supposed to for that anyway.

On the linkages. Is you linkage plate simlar to the one on the carb with 2rows of mounting holes. If so, couldnt you just take the shift tab off, rotate 180degrees, and those mounting holes give enough flexibility to face the lingage 30degrees in the other direction? (ie. no new/customized stuff needed).

Mine just so happened to work out that way. (I've got the 502's also).

Just curious.
Do you have Twin Disc 502 trannys? Do you have to swap the whole tranny to reverse rotation?

The Kaama will not provide much bow lift no matter what way you spin the props. Vee's that ran the Kaama's worked best when the hull had some rocker built in.

I had a 30 Sutphen with Kaama's and bow lift was never a problem, but the hull had some built in rocker. I ran 17 1/2 x 28 four blades with 10% overdrive in the kaama's. I never tried to change the prop rotation, Sutphen told me to spin them in, I figured they knew best.

The Twin Disc 502 is rated for full power in forward and reverse.

I knew a guy who had virtually the same set up as you, a 302 with the Kaama's, and he had the hook removed with good results. I think he picked up a couple of mph's and loosened up the nose.

Does yours have the notched transom? I'm pretty sure his did.

My boat doesn't seem to have a hook in it at all. The transom isn't notched either. What year was your buddies 302?

You have to get a long straight edge, like a 4 ft level to see it. The hook is between the chine and the 1st strake. It's hard to see, but almost all of the late to mid eighties Formulas had hooks and I know alot of guys who tried to remove them with various degrees of success.

The one problem was chine walking, especially when installing big power. A well demeanered 272 became a handful after removing the hook.

That said, the stock low altitude of the kaama equipped boats responded well.

The guys boat I believe was a '95 that was similar to the brochure boat, but blue. I would love to find the black boat! Imho, that and the black 402 cover boat were probably the best looking boats ever made.

My boat was the yellow/black 302 on the cover of the 1986 formula product line literature. Which I thought was pretty cool. Did your friend ever try to swap rotation?

Yep, I know your boat. It's indeed very nice and quite the find with such little use! Take good care of it!

Anyway, I'm not sure if he tried swapping rotation. To be honest, he was just one of the guys hanging at the watering hole we all converged at. We all swapped feedback on various mods and stuff, but I never heard him say anything about swapping rotations.

I wish I could be more help.
