Does it come with some fancy vocabulary to make you feel warm and fuzzy?

I knew this thread wasn't this active about exhaust! IMO, build a mild 540 and use SM exhaust or similar. This coming from a guy who just finished a really nice 540 and planning to restrict it with dry SM. .

Hoping to get to do some exhaust testing soon on a 540 build.

Recently seen a 509, make 640hp thru dyno headers, and 600 when the SM manifolds were bolted on. And about the same loss in Ft lbs with the SM.

I know it will hold me back, but I don't need 700HP in a 27 EX anyway! I'd like to find some sport tubes or rear sweep stellings. Forward sweep headers makes me have to rearrange the front accessories. Accessory relocation is something the OP may need to consider.

If I were a betting man, a 540ci with those 496 manifolds, will not outrun, a 502/509ci, with the above exhaust, if the power making parts are comparable (heads, cam, induction, etc)

600hp from a 502, is not that difficult, using the right parts.
I won't argue that the 502 might outperform the 540 with poor exhaust. I would personally build the best engine from the inside out. Build the 540 and have the limiting power factor the exhaust. It's a heck of a lot easier to put better exhaust on a year or 2 down the road than throw in a new crank, rods and pistons.
