Thoughts on fuel additives
I have thought about trying the fuel additive called Race Fuel that is supposed to raise the octane in your fuel. From shows I have seen they say it really works. Does anybody have any real world experience on this stuff or something like it?

Let me check to see what we used years ago with sc builds. The product we used I swear by and was highly recommended from a very reputable astablished speed/machine shop. We only used when stuck with 87 octane fuel while port hopping.

I was wondering if anyone had any first had experience with any of these. I know I've tried the octane booster from the auto stores but they were a joke with no real benefit. My boat has both tanks full of fuel and Im worried the octane is too low so I was hoping these boosters actually work to pick up the octane until I can refill with fuel I know has high enough octane.

As an FYI, all octane boosters state a point increase. unfortunately, they don't tell you it's in tenths.
example, if it states 3-5 point increase, it is actually .3-.5 octane point increase.
Fukkers huh ?

^^^^Nice thing about gas pick up trucks that get driven all the time.

Boostane does work, we have tested it on the dyno on a supercharged motor that we built to run on 89 octane. Increased boost until the first sign of showing knock on the knock meters, mixed boostane in with the 89 octane fuel to the ratio of 93 octane. Was able to increase boost on the engine significantly with no signs of knock.
The race fuel stuff is garbage, dump a fuel filter after running a boat with this additive in it and you will see why. It does not stay suspended in the fuel. It separates leaving a nasty brown residue in the bottom of the container. Never tested the octane boosting capability of this stuff so I can not knock it there but after watching it separate I will never put it in another gas tank again.
The boostane guys claim they came up with a formula to keep the stuff suspended in the fuel, which I believe they have done a good job accomplishing this.
Both will leave a orange color on the spark plugs.
Torco makes a similar product but I personally have no expierence with it.
Now using the stuff to increase on old fuel could be risky. That's a decision that you would have to make for yourself. Pumping the fuel and filling with fresh fuel is always the best solution there.
