Default 502 Fuel Injectors

HI! Does anyone know what's the difference if any between GEN 5 & GEN 6 Mercruiser 502 8.2 fuel injectors? When I look and the parts diagram they seem to have the same fuel rails and other related parts. I'm looking to buy some new injectors and gen 5 injectors has a very limited selection. There seems to be more options for gen 6 engines.. Thanks in advance

PM "BUP" here on the forums. I'm sure he'll need serial numbers.

The Gen V engines were all Mefi 1 with Keihin injectors. In mid 98, Mercury changed to the Mefi 3 with a more standard shorty injector. The rails were different as well. The Mefi 1 engines used a VST while the Mefi 3 engine used the cool fuel. The injectors are not interchangeable. You will need the Keihin injectors in your particular engjne.

According to this chart the old style injector fits gen 5 and 6

When I look up the fuel rail for a 2000, it's the same part number as a 1995

Made in japan the Keihins are the long earlier version injectors using MEFI 1 up till mid or later 1998 and then the tiny silver bullet MM injectors made in Italy. where used in MEFI 3 year model 1999 - 2001.

Post your engine serial number to see what exactly you have here. year model means nothing. And What ECM do you have - Side mount J connections or front ? Side mount is MEFI 1.

Just to add the Keihins are basically Honda injectors. You can find them at Honda dealerships (I believe Honda owns 80% of Keihin). My Merc and Honda both had Keihin injectors. Kind of funny.
