Default Trying to get a little more power out of my 572

Need help!
We have a 572 wiht 8.7:1 compression.
Heads are:merlin 345cc chamber123cc
Camshaft:hydraulic roller Lift:646/646
Engine produces 640hp @5400.
We would like to get it to put out 700-750hp.
I have been told to raise the compression, some people tell me change pistons others tell me mill heads. One engine shop told me to change heads to aluminum.NEED HELP.

Thank.

wil ros, has any porting work been done to the heads as they are? Also, what kind of carb are you running and what kind of exhaust system?

If you go with aluminum heads you can bump your compression to around 10:1, and I would do it with pistons. Then you need to evaluate your cam and possibly make a change. To get an honest 750 HP out of your motor you may need to turn a few more RPM and let that big carb and head runners start working for you. If you are going to run 5900 to 6000 RPM I feel you will be benefiting from the 345 CC runners and the big carb. At those type of RPM solid rollers may be worth 25 or so HP over hydraulic. Keep in mind solids require more maintenance and upkeep than hydraulic. I have never built a 572 so this is only my opinion. KAAMA should have some good advice for you once he digests your combo.Good luck!!

Then install a procharger. HP is great & fits under engine cover.

Thank you for your imput,It is greatly apriciated.I am trying to get the power with the heads I have,I just do not know if to go to 9.2:1 or 9.5:1 since my heads are not aluminum.Any idea on cam size. What do you think of the TSD valva train.

thanks again.

wil ros, sorry forgot to ask what intake you're running as well? Were the heads ported by a reputable shop or someone who's known for porting heads? (don't need to know the name)
The reason I ask is because it just seems like you're down on power for a 572" engine @5400rpm.

I knew of someone who built a pair of 572's w/8.6 comp ratio, 1050 Holley Dom, hydraulic roller cam 246*/254* @.050", ---only he had Dart 360 aluminum heads bowl ported. Which is VERY SIMULAR to your application. On the dyno it made 675hp @5300 and about 705hp @5500-5600rpm. It's been a while but I am almost exact.

Are those dyno figures that you're giving?
