502 Crate Motor upgrade
I am in the process of assembling the necessary to install a new 502 Crate motor into 24 Baja Outlaw. I am looking for help & recomendations on Cam & valve train selection + intake
CMI Headers with silent choice( already have)
Hp 500 Carb (already have)
Intake ...Single plane same as HP500
Crane 741 0r 731 Cam (reversion?)
Harland Sharp Roller Rockers
Thunder-Bolt Ign. RPM limit???5600? is it capable?
I want as much as I can get out this motor without sacrificing reliability. What kind oh Hp would this or similar combo be capable of.
Any help, suggestion
Thanks John

Johno,
I installed the HP 500 EFI cam in my 502 MPI with a Whipple supercharger. Idles like a dream and pulls strongly to 5500 RPM.
No reversion issues. PS - Let me know if you already have your crate engine. Have new in the crate, an untouched 502/502 Premium Engine kit. (Aluminum heads) $6K vs $6.8K from Pace or Scoggins-Dickey. Lastly... GM will be selling a crate 572 engine. Might be an interesting way to go.

I run the 741 cam with the Merc/Gil exhaust with silent choice. No hint of reversion. With the CMI's, you will be even safer.
Both my speed shop and Crane themselves have each told me the 731 is great for the 454, with the 741 better for the 502's.
Another member here runs the 731 cam in his 502 and has a great running motor. We both are running 250 blowers with similar results.
Another member yet had his HP500 rebuilt and went with the 741 cam. It was down on power from what he expected, so he switched to the 731. No noticable difference. So either seems to work equally in the 502's.
