Question Turbocharged Cam Spec's

HELLO GUY'S ! I'm presently using a Bank's cam with following spec's. Duration @ .050 is 244* in & ex. on 114* C/L and.559 lift.EVENT IO @ 10* BTDC. Using Rhodes bleed down lifters. I'm
using this in a 540 @5500rpm & 14# boost. I'm wondering if there is a better or what some of you turbo guys are using. It idels nice now 800 neutral 600 in gear. I sure dont want to change that! Thanks in advance.

Finally, somone is turbocharging!!!!
This is old technology!! I don't like the Rhodes lifters, either.
I need more info-compression ratio, rod length, intake and fuel system, etc. You had better have some good drives

Default Sounds good to me!

I don't think you can do any better without giving up that good idle. The cam you have sounds perfect to me! I bet it runs good.

REDCHECKMATE,
I know some cam grinders that have done everything from Buicks for street to Indy cars, drag, etc. Try Kenne Bell or someone up to date. You will do much better

blown 1500 Comp=8.5, rod length=6.385. This is a draw thru system with two boost referenced 750 CFM carb's. Intake is HOLLY STRIP DOM series open plen. My boat is not too heavy approx. 3400#. Drive is orig. & stock. Itry not to abuse it. Why dont you like the Rhodes? Thanks for posting.

REDCHECKMATE,
The Rhodes make noise and can bleed down too fast. I always had better luck with the right cam and regular lifters without the noise. Other reasons, also.
Everything sounds good to me. Like to know which heads and/or flow numbers, etc.
I've been into turbos since the mid '60s. Seen a lot of advancements. One has been to learn you need MORE EXHAUST profile. Some of the roadracer turbos use almost stock intake profiles with race exhaust profiles on winning cars. I know that is not a boat, but torque is torque. If you cannot find anyone with current turbo experience, post or pm and I'll give you some info.
Kenne Bell, Dutweiler, maybe tomcat(see intercooler test this forum), or, for flat tappet cams only, Larry Wallace at Holman Moody in Charlotte, NC(he has helped me before) many more. One clue, your intake lobe is too big. the exhaust too small.
If you run 14# on a 540 at 5,500, stock drives will fall off the boat!! or you are doing something VERY wrong. One more thing, talk to several people who are currently doing performance turbo work.

blown1500 The heads are alu rect ported chev round exhaust port. I just checked......drive's still there. What do you mean VERY wrong. Timing, jetting? I was hoping to compare some turbo cam profiles to my cam on the Dyno 2000 program.

REDCHECKMATE, your cam is probably your biggest problem. What drives do you have? A good 540 with a roots blower will usually kill Bravo's. Turbos kill everything else, especially roots.
Your Dyno 2000 program is a good tool. Try the program with your cam data and one with about 10* less intake and 10-15* more exhaust duration, about .500" intake lift, .580" exhaust.
That is not my final choice, but just see what this does on the computer. There are more factors.
Whose kit do you have??
How about a picture??

blown1500 Above cam spec.'s gained less than 1% @5500 and 1.7% @ 6000 which was 1097hp. The jury's still out on DYNO! Kit started out as M&W blow thru. I removed carb box & installed BANKS dual core cooler & two PFM plenum boxes for the HOLLY'S.Sorry don't have pic's. I would like to talk to BELL&DUTWEILER. Post or PM if yuo have info. Thanks Again!
