Volvo 280 drive
I have noticed a bit of (side to side ) slop with my drive , I had this gone thru last summer , tranom plate , sterring linkages included ...and alot of things replace...I cannot recall if ti had any sway in it before removal...but am now concerned if not worried...I guess external streeing is my next purchase...any thoughts on how much slop might be expect out of a Volvo power steering set-up ....I am taking linkages apart now and have replaced a coulpe pins that were a little sloppy and working my way down....
this is a mid 70's unit by the way....

nasty, if you decide to go the external steering route i saw in the "$500 hydraulic steering" thread that they are looking for a volvo 280 to make some wing plates for. i cant remember exactly what page i saw it on but they are trying to make the system for several diffrent drive types. by the way i had a 280 on my last boat. those things are just about lndustructable. in fact when merc developed the brovo they designed it directly off the 280. you can actually get a kit to put a brovo in the volvo gimble. i did several threads about that drive in the past trying to learn as much as i could about it. i know of one guy with a blown 502 in front of one and its holding togather
