Question Saltwater Questions

Looks like we're boating Destin over Spring break. I'm running a 496 MAG HO (closed cooling) with a Bravo I drive. The motor was not set up for saltwater. Questions:

I'm assuming I want a flush kit for the manifolds and heat exchanger. Recommendations?

A slip is available. Do I want to keep the boat in the water for four to six days? Am I better off pulling the boat out each day? Can I prep the outdrive in some way to reduce corrosion?

Thanks!
Greg

You will have no problems in that amount of time. I am assuming you will use the boat every day. When you are done just flush the motor for about 15-20 min to get all the salt out. Also there are a few things you can spray the engine down with. I often use WD40. Have fun you will love it. Oh ya do not forget to wash the trailer and boat real well with soapy water.

Thanks, Jon...

OK Guys, I found the thread from a week ago - same questions. No further replies are necessary.

FYI - Your exhaust manifolds are actually included in the closed cooling, but the risers are not.

Ric,
Didn't know that. I'll have to tear off some plastic and try to find the actual engine.

So, the choices are:

Have fun, and flush the motor when I'm done for the week

OR

Flush the exchanger and risers after each days use

????

I'm facing the same decision. I'm going to the Keys for 5 days in early May and I've never had my boat in saltwater. I suspect I'll end up leaving it in the water for the first 2 nights, pull it out and flush it the third night, then put it back in the next morning for the rest of the trip. If there is a hose hookup near the slip, I may just flush it in the water. One thing I am going to do is flush the engine with Salt Away before I launch it the first time. Same goes for the trailer. Then I'll wash the trailer down again with Salt Away after the first launch and spray it down with Amsoil HD metal protector. Unfortunately, my trailer is painted vs alum or galvanized.
