Oil Pump Question
Do the HP500 motors use just a std pressure/std volume oil pump? Is this all I really need for a 502 w/ appx. 500hp? I really want to keep my std pan. Lastly, are the pumps the same as the ones sold as automotive units in Jeg's , etc? Thanks in advance!

The oil pumps are the same as automotive. The standard oil pump is sufficient for your engine. The difference in high volume pumps and the standard ones is just the length of the pump rotors, therefore the housing is a liitle longer. They are still directly interchangable. High pressure pumps use a stiffer bypass spring. The pumps look the same.
The oil pump screen is determined by the oil pan used. ALWAYS WELD THE SCREEN TO THE PUMP!!! You must remove the spring from the bypass valve or the whole bottom plate when welding to avoid damage to the bypass spring. You will have no oil pressure if you heat the spring!!
