Default AN fittings angle

What is the flare angle of an AN fitting? I need to shorten a fuel line and I have a 45 degree flare tool, will that work?

AN Fittings are 37 degree, SAE fittings are 45 degree.

Tim, you know any aircraft mechanics? They will have them. Or to where you could just go to small airport and have them flare them while you wait?
When I made up these lines, I priced the AN flaring tools trying to buy a set, not cheap tools.
Then I was reminded I WORK at an airport! Duh!!! What a putz I felt like. 5 minutes later, I had some at my disposal.

US1 has just given you guys a great tip- seek out and make friends with A&P mechanics at your local airports- they are also an avenue to MUCH cheaper prices for your Aeroquip and
Stratoflex fittings and hoses, since they buy this stuff at wholesale prices from aviation dealers. Most shops have boxes full of these fittings and the like.
I just have to shake my head when I look in a Summit or others catalogs and see the prices they charge John Q. Public for that stuff- 3-4 times or more the price we pay in aviation.
Aircraft mechanics don't bite, they just bark a lot!

In a pinch, you can 45* flare a steel tubing and use the AN fittings. It will seal and work just fine on a low pressure, non aircraft situation.

There are also crimp fittings that use the dreaded compression ring.

OK, I flared it at 45 (the pipe end) and sanded it with 600 grit. Hooked it up and snugged it till it quit. Sealed right up. I did make it a little long so I can re-flare at 37 when I scare up the tool.
