Stereo problem
I picked up my new boat yesterday and was checking out all the systems and found the cockpit speakers not working. I adjusted the fade all the way to the rear speakers and no luck.
Its a ClarionXMD1 with 2 ClarionAPX400.4M Amps. Any ideas?
Its really frustrating to find something wrong even before getting the boat wet, especially after shelling out 150k.

jeff,
don't let this stereo problem "rain on your parade".
i'm sure its something very simple.
just a few things to check out:
make sure you don't have a blown fuse on one of the amps.
make sure all the rca cables running from the rear of the radio to the amps are plugged in tight.
finally get to the rear of the speakers, the wires may have shaken loose from their connections.
hope some of this will help and if not take it back to the dealer.
good luck,
robin

RNH,
Thanks for the tips, I checked the connections and fuses, everything seems to be OK. There are alot of different settings on the amps and I have no clue where they should be set. I have installed several stereos in cars and boats that I have had but never amps. I'm going to get a new receiver from the dealer and swap it out. Hopefully that will do it.

Take a meter and pull off the speaker wires going to the speakers. Then put a OHM meter on the plus and minus side and see if they are at 4ohms (or close). Then if that is ok look at the amp when the system is powered on. You should see a light that indicates that the amp is on. If that is ok then go to the next step. If that is off then check power and ground and the remote turn on to see if they are all seeing the apropriate values. Once you know that all that is ok then take your RCA's at the head unit and swap them around (unless they ran speaker line level). Check all that and let us know.

Jon,
Thanks for the info. This what I have discovered, After turning on the receiver the display flashes about 10 times then the front cabin speakers start cranking out the tunes then about 3 minutes later the cockpit speakers finally kick in. The green power lights on the amps are on from the second that I turn the receiver on. Do the amps have to warm up? Sorry to be so ignorant, but i have never had a stereo with amps before.

Yes but I have NEVER seen one that takes that long. Ussually about 5 seconds will get most amps on. Maybe a problem with the power supplies in the amp then.
