Default Oil & Filters for 496 HO's

What oil and oil filters are you using on your 496 HO's?

I was planning on using Mobil Delvac 1 Synthetic.

I have always used the Mercury filters but I got to believe they are the same ones GM puts on the truck engines.

Anybody have a aftermarket filter number for a Fram etc.?

I'm for sure an amsoil guy your right !!! but I'd rather see a guy use any good syn than a straight weight con. oil
I like Amsoil very much and I'm not a dealer for real but I am for redline and the redline in the motor is o.k. but even it just can't stand up to the Amsoil ! Its killer in the out drive though

Thanks for asking though

PS blown 1500 is staying busy so he's not on much now

Bobby,
Ya and look how long those JOHN DEERE's lasted.

I am sure you know this but that is what Merc suggests for this engine at the temperature range we run in. I also think I read Bob Teague suggested the same.

I use Valvoline Racing VR1 straight 40 with a Merc Filter. 200 hours, oil's always clean, no problems.

Yea for a tractor it would do good , and if your oils staying clean its not suspending the dirt maybe ??
10w40 syn is as has been beat to death on here by people alot smarter than most of us as being hands down better than a single wt. oil and it is . it starts at 10 weight to circulate faster and better than the 40w ,which when is cold is thicker than 40 and yet it gets to 40 weight (the syn) if temp calls for it ,also it affords much better protection than conv.oil as has been proven ,
As for tegue well ,OLD school ??
Use what you want as most people want the best proctection
as myself I'll stay with syn

Who makes merc's filters ???? does anyone know the type filter media other than they by bulk filters from someone

Well, I went shopping last night and picked up two K&N HP3002 Oil Filters. The guy at the parts store was great! I think I'm going to stick with the Mobil Delvac 1 5w-40 Synthetic. The Mobil Rep. recommended it to me and I have used it in the past and was very satisfied. It is used alot in heavy equipment applications with super high performance diesel and gas applications.
