Default Dyno's oil leak part 2

well OK here we go again...I pulled the engine last week to find the dang thing, I bought some fluorescent dye to put in the oil to help locate the leak before I pulled it no luck...it was near the back of the motor close to the remote oil filter. Couldn't't tell while it was in the boat so out it came,a couple hours later and its sitting on my garage floor. Sunday I cleaned the back of the motor with paint thinner and painted the back of the block white I'll find it right? wrong! This afternoon I blocked the thing up in the garage and did some testing with Kaama and Crazyhorse for support thanks guys! well we fire it up let it warm up good maybe 5-10 min. no leak.....run it up to like 2500 no leak...what the heck run it up to 3k no leak damn it I'm getting pissed! Dave backs it off to an idle and we start looking it over just then it pisses oil out the bell housing like it was being poured out of a bottle..... ****! so we pick the thing up and strip the back of the motor it seams that its the rear main so I pull the pan to check it out, remove the rear cap it all looks cool to me.......whats going on?Help! ....could it be to much end play in the crank? could they have given me the wrong rear main seal? whats next??? got to get this thing buttoned up for the 4th!

Don, sounds like you had to pull the motor anyway, even if the dye would have helped you find the problem. It could be that the black light you were using was not strong enough. They are made in different wattages. Good luck with your dilema. Doug

My motor had a pesky leak like yours and it was coming from the rear main seal. Turned out I had too much oil in the pan. I was pissed and it was my own fault. Lowered the oil level and the leak is gone. Good luck!! I feel your pain.
