Im having trouble idling when my engine is cold, when its hot theirs no problem, I just turn the key and it starts. But when the engine temp is down, when I start the engine the rpms flucuate about 600 rpms up and down about 6-8 times before they just staedy out without doing anything, by themselves. No other signs of trouble at other rpm ranges or when its hot. Its a carburated engine with a Procharger M1. Timing is ok at 10 deg in idle, fuel pressure is 7 psi, voltage is 13, oil pressure is 43 in idle, about 5 pds of vacuum in idle, idles at 800 rpms. The carb is a mechanical dean nickerson 750 hp holley. Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Okay, I am going to try this.
The Baja has a Holley carb on it. What I do on those cool morning or evenings is pump the throttle a few times before I start her. Feed her! She wants fuel. She ALWAYS fires up when I do that. Then I let her run a little before I back her off the trailer.

Now I am sure the men who dominate this forum will tell you I am wrong, but that seems to work for me.
I have always been afraid of her back firing so I am super careful.

Also we had to adjust her idle a bit. it was set too low. I still pump her though. The idle adjustment did not help that.

Cowgirl, you are NOT wrong. Thats always the way I started it too. A couple of pumps of the throttle and then feather it a little when it fires up. Since it has no choke, it needs a lot of fuel on the initial start up. My Pantera has no choke either and starts almost the same way.
As far as the idle speed, I had to adjust it half turn every once in a while depending on the air temp and humidity. Just make sure you set it after the its warmed up all the way.
