Engine shuuting off at 175 degrees HELP!
I need some help. I have a 97 Baja 252 with a 7.4lx mpi. The engine runs at 160 degrees until i get past 4000 rpm's,then the temp goes up to the 175 mark and the engine shuts off, just as if you turned the key off. All the gauges and lights stay on. I know that 175 is a little hot and that I need to put in a new pump, but what would cause the engine to shut off like that? the alarm does not sound either and there is no hesitation in the engine what so ever before it shuts off. At lower rpm's below 4000 the temp stay at 160. Is there some kind of electrical problem? Any help would be great.
Thanks

175* for an MPI engine is not hot. Mine runs at 180* all day long. The first thing I think you should do is scan for codes. There may be something stored to give a direction to go in. While you're there, take a good luck at what the ECT is and compare it to your guage.

It does start back up immediately and runs perfect until the temp gets back up to 175 then it shuts off again.
Checkmate mine does not hold codes or so I was told by the dealer.
