KAAMA Surface Drives, I need help

I recently purchased a 1983 Formula 402 SR-1, with 454s, Twindisc MG-502 transmissions, KAAMA Surface Drives, and Clever Props. I need to R&R the portside trans. It blew on Sea trial. Now it's a question of how to get it out? There is no end play to take apart the u-joints that are between the
trans. output flange and the yoke at the transom.
Choices seem to be:
1. move engine forward.
2. remove the KAAMA drive.
I know how pull the engine, but there has to be an easier way. I don't have a clue of where to begin on those KAAMAs. Any info or input would be helpful. Anyone who has had any exp. with the trans. or drives and could shed any light on these or where to get info would be helpful.
Thanks,
Andrew Diamond
