Direction is "either"
Make sure you put it just before the crossover so that you don't loose good water flow to your oil and PS coolers. If you put it before the coolers the cooling capacity of the coolers will diminish greatly.

This is what I'm afriad of! so after the coolers, before engine block sounds about right.

I am dumping to an existing thru hull that I had for a manual bilge pump. Will be cutting in a new thru hull this week.

Yes put it in after the coolers. Merc sends a little instruction sheet along with the part and they recommend after the cooler.

So true. I screwed around the better part of 1 summer trying different configs to get my complete stock setup water pressure down. I was pegging my gauge at 35psi at cruise speeds, so limited myself to no more than 3000 rpm for a few months. Saved tons of gas though! I would lift the hatch a bit and see the large hose from the pump to the stat housing swell up tremendiously. Only time before something gives. Finally broke down and bought 2 valves. Instant cure!

I'm right at 20psi now at WOT.

The killer of this is that those valves were only $100 a few yrs ago. A little out of line to fix a design flaw from Merc, IMO.
