Need help with Alpha One assembly..
I'm mating an Alpha One upper to an MR lower.
I cannot get the o-ring on the driveshaft to go into the seal on the upper. The o-ring gets caught and will not seat. I have greased the o-ring and the seal to no avail.
I found a service bulletin that indicates a new shaft for replacement on I/R/MR/Alpha drives where the groove for the o-ring is removed and no o-ring is required. The recommendation for service is to lube the shaft where it goes into the seal and that's it.
Can I leave out this o-ring?
I have been fighting with this for two days now and it will not go together. I'm ready to toss thius freaking drive out into the street and sit boatless for the rest of the season... I'm that pissed off right now.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,

Been There - Done That
Will it go together without the O-ring? Look up into the Drive Shaft housing and see if the old O-ring is still in the upper shaft. Remove it with a needle nose pliers. You can leave off the O-ring, no big deal.

Dennis,
I got it back together with the o-ring in place. I was going toleave it out, but I got worried about it, so I helped it go in with the careful useof a pick.
Next time I'll leave the darn thing out! []
Thanks!
Tom
