Help reverse problem with merc trany
I have put in a trs drive into my boat with a Merc trans II
and when i push the gear switch into reverse the prop only starting to go slow and i can hold the prop with my bare hands .
But when i take this control on the tranny and pull it maximum up the front gear goes in
and when i puch this maximum down its only goes very slowly reverse
(sorry my bad eng )
please help me

First off NEVER touch your prop when the motor is running!!!!!!
First thing to look at would be to make sure that when you put the tranny in reverse it actually goes into reverse. Have a friend shift the boat for you and see if it is moving all the way into gear. If that does not do it then your reverse band probably is not engaging and I am not sure if there is a fix for that with out your taking out the tranny.

No Reverse in Merc Trans.
I also agree don't put your hands anywhere near the prop with the engine running. If anything use a stick and that is also dangerous.
Check a couple of basics, is your fluid level where it should be? Or is there air in the line? You just installed it, maybe you need to run a while to bleed any air in the system out then try the following.
Take the shift cable off of the transmission, and shift it into forward and reverse manually. Typically there is a detent in the shift arm and you can feel is slip into forward, neutral, and again into reverse.
Post your findings.

If it goes into forward you know the pump is ok. You know that there is enough fluid in there. The way reverse works is this band comes down and holds the drum and that makes it go into reverse.
Did you rebuild this tranny? If so you may not have gotten the band on there quite right. You can also adjust the band but I would have to loook at the manual to know how.
