94 Dodge Ram Ignition Problem
Anyone have problems with the ignition on a Dodge Ram. The Starter doesn't seem to be getting any power when I turn the key. Won't even click. It's a diesel and both batteries are good.

If you want, I can forward you a wiring diagram for this truck. Just send me your e-mail address and the model truck and engine size.

You know what? This is going to sound real stupid but if you get under it and tap on the starter motor with a hammer, I bet it will start. If it does then you will need to purchase a new starter. The contacts get dirty and hitting it with a hammer will dislodge some of the burned gunk off the contacts. I have been doing this for years and that has always worked. Now you will only be able to get away with this a few times until the contacts got so dirty that it just won't work anymore.

Thanks for the responses. The starter is not bad. Something is broke in the steering column, and it's going to have to be taken apart. The starter is good, I just can't get it to engage.

There was a recall on the ignitions of some of the
heavy duty trucks. I can't remember all of the details
of the recall but it involved wiring in a relay under the
dash because some of the ignition wires going directly
to the ignition switch were burning up. Too much draw
on them.
I was a tech at a Dodge dealer, its been
a few years since I've turned wrenches and I don't
remember all the details of that recall, but that could
be your problem. If you're not sure if that recall has
been done or not, call the dealer.
