2.5 efi offshore race powerheads
I have a set of 99' 2.5 offshore race powerheads that have low hours and were not run hard. During my annual inspection I found the nicacil plating was coming off at the top of the cylinder bore on all cylinders, right at the point above where the ring gap runs in the cylinders. Does anyone know if Mercury did anything with the rings or plating since 99' since this was the first full year for the new design or what might cause this. I run premium blend Mercury racing oil at the recommended 32:1 premix for the racing engine. I raced the old style engines, running them much harder for 8 years with more hours with no problems like this. Any help is appreciated.
