If you must use an octane booster use the NOS in the blue bottle. Don't use the %nitromethane (grey bottle) because it actually lowers octane. I have used it with great success on Supra with 24-PSI boost. really kept the knock retard down so you know it worked.
Just curious: How are you getting a stroker 406? Isn't that just a 400 bored .030?

You can find the NOS octane booster at Autozone or Pep-Boy's.
Actually the term “stroker” would refer to an engine that had it's cubic-inch displacement increased by the use of a longer stroke crankshaft. (such as a 350 with a 400 crank = 383 cubic-inches) You’re engine uses a 400 block with the 400 crank punched .030 over giving you 406 cubic-inchs. There have been some SBC 400 stroked to 426 cubic-inches and they are more expensive than they are cost affective. Also tell me how this engine is holding up for you. Have you had any problems with head gaskets? I'm very interesting in knowing.
have a good weekend

Stroker 406
Intense 406, i have 116 Hrs of pounding on this beast. Never had problems with head gaskets, i used Felpro blue with stainless ring. I have a closed cooling sysytem, this also keeps temps at a steady 165 degrees. So far, so good.
The only thing is fuel, wow, just like a big block when you jump on her. eats gas like a slobb.
Roby, thanks for the tip on NOS, I will try.
