Default Broken propshaft

Just got the boat in the water the second time from sticking 4 valves ,redid the heads, motor is 300 rpms below the other which is at 5000, the motors are 502's any advise ?, the timing is right on , the current bigger prob is I was running on flat water and broke the propshat on the starboard side and lost my newly labbed prop.
A friend said pull the other prop and see if that shaft is twisted to avoid another prop lost. How can you tell ? Going to put the IMCO shaft in to run the rest of the season. Thanks in advance.

you probably wont see anything if you pull the other prop off.they usually break right at the seal surface, not at the splines.do yourself a favor and convert them to the merc xr shafts.if you want i can get you a price on them, chris

I'd swear that I've seen shafts that were twisted in the splines.

they do twist at the splines, but when they break it is almost always at the seal surface.the big shafts take care of both problems

Just wipe the grease off and put a straight edge by it. Its easy to see.

I have seen twisted shafts that you can see from 10' away. If one failed the other is probably close too.

Thanks for the advise, the other shaft looks straight but the one that broke did so at the seal area.
A friend called and has a couple of imco shafts, says the xr shaft needs a lower kit to install, the imco is the same as Teagues, bravo shop, etc...
Will sell for 175 each , thought that was a deal !
I never did the drives, can you do this in your garage?
