Question Need facts: Weight savings of aluminum heads over steel heads for BBC?

Anyone know the weight savings per pair of aluminum heads over stock heads on a big block chevy? What are other ways to reduce engine weight without sacrificing reliability? Planning on being in fresh water so corrosion with salt is not an issue.

Thanks,
Dave

bare cast iron heads are about 61, assembled they are about 65. Aluminum Dart head is 38 bare, 42 assembled.

Aluminium exhaust manifolds like Stainless marine or others will save another 30 lbs over the stock cast iron at about 25 vs 40 lbs each

Not to mention the cast iron intake which weighs like 500 lbs (LOL) verses the aluminum ones that weight nothing.

Good info guys....thanks! I'm hoping to put together an engine drive package that weighs in at right around 1000 pounds or less.

You would save roughly 45 to 50 pounds per engine.
