Made a trip to Cougar two years ago, great guys, well built boats, it always depends on the previous care though. I have Petes info from Cougar if you want it.

There used to be 28 on Lake Hopatcong in NJ
owned by Roger Mahan . It had twin modified 2.5's for power.

Tahoe,

Personally I think they are great boats.
Not many around, all the better. Go down to the Owners forum / Apache section on the bulletin board, and read the (41 Apache "Allez Vite" ). A lot of interesting info in there on a 38 Cougar. Kaama had alot of nice things to say about it.

I have a 28'Cougar for sale on the other side. I've spent a couple years and a ton of money on it. The boat handles rough water like a much bigger boat, turns flat and safe, and is very well built. I don't think it's as fast as some of the other cats, I've only been able to get a little over 90 (gps) out of it with 2.5's, but it may not be set up quite right yet. If I can answer anything I'd be happy to try.
